14: This is the Weight of Blue Whales Heart!

The blue whale, the largest animal on Earth, is full of jaw-dropping facts—but perhaps the most astonishing of all is the sheer size and weight of its heart. A blue whale's heart weighs a staggering 400 pounds (180 kilograms) on average, about the size of a small car!

This massive organ pumps blood throughout its enormous body, allowing the whale to thrive in the deep ocean. To put it into perspective:

  • The heart is so large that a human could crawl through its arteries!
  • With each beat, the blue whale’s heart pumps 10 gallons (38 liters) of blood.
  • Despite its colossal size, the heart beats at a slow rate—typically around 5 to 6 beats per minute when diving, but it can increase to about 25-37 beats per minute when at the surface.
